The MLTC Executive Management Team is seeking highly a motivated individual to fill the full-time position of Communications Officer, the position will be based out of the main office in Meadow Lake.


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing internal and external messaging for the Meadow Lake Tribal Council. They will assist, develop, and implement communication strategies that educate the public and result in a positive image of First Nations.



·         Maintain/update the MLTC website

·         Responsible for MLTC Social Media presence

·         Responsible to coordinate newsletter issues

·         Write press releases, script speeches for elected officials

·         Provide 2nd level service support to the FN’s for their communication needs

·         Assist programs with developing PR materials

·         Use new media technology to highlight at showcase MLFN Communities

·         Build/develop/maintain positive relationships with the media and public



§  Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing, Public Affairs/Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related discipline

§  Certificate in Journalism, Communications, Public Affairs/Relations, or related may be considered

§  A combination of relevant education and relevant work experience may also be considered

§  Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in journalism or communications/public relations field

§  Knowledge and understanding of First Nations’ customs, culture and history.

§  Knowledge and understanding of FN/MLTC Governance, Federal and Provincial Governments.

§  Advanced computer skills and working with digital graphics and communications systems, i.e. Microsoft Office programs, social Media platforms

§  Must have superior interpersonal skills and communication (written/verbal) skills.

§  Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity, and personal wellness.

§  Must be willing to work flexible hours with extensive travel involved.

§  The ability to speak and understand Cree and/or Dene is a definite asset.
