The Meadow Lake First Nations In northwest Saskatchewan

the Meadow Lake First Nations share a region covered in vast forests and farmlands and rich with lakes and rivers. This region is home to the nine First Nations that make up MLTC which include the following communities:

  1. Birch Narrows Dene Nation
  2. Buffalo River Dene Nation
  3. Canoe Lake Cree Nation
  4. Clearwater River Dene Nation
  5. English River First Nation
  6. Flying Dust First Nation
  7. Island Lake First Nation
  8. Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation
  9. Waterhen Lake First Nation

There are four Dene communities and five Cree communities that make up the Meadow Lake First Nations (MLFNs). The population of the combined MLFNs is approximately 12,500 members and the region shared by the nine MLFNs is rich in natural resources. Each community supports its members through effective and efficient administration of their resources making economic development a main focus of all MLFNs. Birch Narrows has the smallest registered population among the nine MLFNs and Canoe Lake has the largest.
